Welcome.
Welcome to the Taranaki Triathlon Club where a series of duathlons and triathlons for all abilities is held from October through to April. The Club Prizegiving Fitzroy Surf Club 7pm Wednesday 2nd May. The 2011-12 club season ended with the club prizegiving and highlighted the outstanding athletes we have in Taranaki. Another great sportsman was our guest speaker- world class speed skater John Carthew. Thanks John for a great talk. There was so much interest we had to interrupt questions so we could finish our prizegiving! Our Life Member John Lykles also presented life memberships to Murray Mace and Eleanor Hamilton- two members who have given outstanding service to the club, competing, running events and serving on the committee for many years. Congratulations for a honour well deserved! Photos from our evening are in the photo gallery. Two of our awards are for the most improved athlete and the most outstanding and a glance through our nominees below shows the talent in our region. Our nominees were: Ryan Dingle: ( most improved and most outstanding) Ryan stepped up to the long course this year and recorded 3 wins and one 2nd. He won the Triathlon club champs along with the secondary schools Triathlon and Duathlon titles. At National level Ryan has represented NZ for the past 3 years at the world age group championships. Ryan has shown improvement at this level also, with his sprint distance times getting faster each season. Despite bad mechanical luck at Kinloch this year, he has qualified for the World Championships again in Jessica Leary: (Most improved) Jess continues to be a consistent and leading performer in the junior female category. This year she won the Taranaki Secondary Schools Champs and placed 10th in her class at the National Sprint Champs in Kinloch. She has once again won the club points trophies for both triathlon and duathlon with improving performances. Jeff continues to perform at the highest level for his age group. This year he won a few of our club races along with the points trophy. His main season aim of Ironman started with a 2nd in age group and 18th overall at the Taupo half Ironman followed by an equally impressive 3rd in age group and 24th overall at the Tauranga half Ironman with a time of 4hrs 21. At Ironman NZ he finished 3rd in his age group and 46th overall to earn another qualification spot for the Ironman World Champs in Shannon Stallard: (most outstanding) While Emma Daniels: (most improved) Emma has shaved 2-3 mins off each race appearance when compared to last year. She has pushed the junior males all season, and just edged ahead to be the fastest junior in her most recent club race at Ngamotu. She also showed a similar time improvement at Kinloch, going from a very credible 7th last year, to win her class this year. Eliot Lundon- Eliot is relatively new to the sport, but has showed improvements worthy of mention even in his first year. He has participated in the junior academy training sessions and improved in his class during the season. He finished first in the junior male class at his most recent club event in Ngamotu. Shorty Shorty has been a consistent triathlete, and very supportive club member for a number of years. He has a long list of impressive results. In the past season Shorty was placed in veteran male class at each club event he entered, and won his class at every Contact tri event he entered, including gold at the Tri NZ Olympic distance champs in Tony Brownrigg: (most improved) This season improved times and consistently improved swim splits have seen Tony have his most successful season. Tony qualified for the Olympic distance age group team for the World Champs in a very competitive age group and he won the Duathlon Club Champs. Joy Baker: (most outstanding) Joy has excelled this season, dominating her age group at the sprint distance nationals and placing second at the Olympic distance. Youth Academy
The youth academy was successfully launched this season- an initiative funded by TRINZ.
We thank Graham Park, a TRINZ Level Two Certified Coach for running these coaching sessions. To have someone of Graham’s experience to undertake these sessions was of huge value to all participants and the benefit of his coaching was evident in the season's results.
Many thanks also to Jane and Ross Dingle for their continued support of this initiative and the donation of trophies for the winners of the series.
Those at our events for the season would have seen our new small truck.
With generous support of TSB Community Trust and with assistance from a few key club members, the committee has been able to fit out a small box truck to transport our growing list of club gear. We believe this truck will replace the aging tri-club trailer, and provide better mobility and easier access to our club equipment.
We are currently looking for assistance with some low cost (ideally donated) covered storage
so our truck remain in good shape for years to come. If you know of any possible avenues we could consider, please get in touch with Peter Crawford 021 674 390.
