About The Club :: Trophies

In addition to the trophy for the Taranaki Open Male and Female triathlon and duathlon Championship, the Club awards the following trophies each season:

Points Trophies

  • At the end of each season, points trophies are awarded to the member within each age category who has accumulated the greatest number of points in Club races over the season. Separate trophies are awarded for triathlon and duathlon points.

  • The winner of each points trophy is decided on the basis of the members best three results in Club races.

  • A member must have competed in at least two club events to be eligible to win the Points Trophy within their category.

  • A member aged 40 years or older or under the age of 18 years may before their first club race of the season elect to compete in the Senior age category for the season.

  • Within each season a member may compete for the Points Trophy only within one age category.

"Most Outstanding" Trophy
The “Most Outstanding” Trophy is awarded to the Club Member who has competed at the highest level of excellence during the season.
The member must have:

  1. been a club member in the previous season or from the 1st November in the current season

  2. been a resident of Taranaki from at least the 1st November of the current season

  3. have competed in or assisted in the running of at least three of the Club events during the season.

“Most Improved” Trophy
The “Most Improved” trophy is awarded to the member who over the season has achieved the greatest improvement in performance compared with that athlete’s past performances.
The member must have:

  1. been a club member in the previous season

  2. been a resident of Taranaki from at least the 1st November of the current season

  3. have competed in or assisted in the running of at least three of the Club events during the season.

Judging panel
Prior to annual prizegiving, the committee appoints an Awards Sub-committee of up to six club members who collectively decide the recipients of the "Most Outstanding" and "Most Improved" trophies. Club members who may be considered contenders for these awards are excluded from the Awards Sub-Committee.

Taranaki Sportsperson of the Year

Nomination Guidelines

 

Sport Taranaki is the Regional Sports Trust located in New Plymouth, dedicated to the promotion of sport and physical recreation in Taranaki.

 

In conjunction with the Taranaki Daily News, they convene the annual Taranaki Daily News Sportsperson of the Year Awards, and these awards are an opportunity for the years sporting achievements to be publicly recognised by sports codes, fellow athletes and the Taranaki community.

 

Categories include: Coach, Official, Junior & Senior Sports woman and Sportsman, Team, and Volunteer/Administrator.

 

The awards recognise sporting achievements in a calendar year from 01 January to 31 December.

 

Any person may nominate a sportsperson for any of these sporting awards.

 

The Taranaki Triathlon Club (TTMC) have previously nominated club members in various categories for these sports awards, and will continue to make nominations, however some guidelines are required to ensure consistency and fairness with any future nominations being made by the club.

 

The following criteria will applied by the club committee when nominations are to be made by the TTMC.

.

 1. Nominee to have been an active member of TTMC. Active member recognised by attendance and participation at club organised events, and/or assisted with the running of club organised events, and/or attended informal social gatherings for TTMC members.

 

2.      The TTMC committee to be ultimately responsible for the decision to forward a nomination on behalf of the TTMC.

 

The TTMC will appoint a sub committee (which may include non committee members ) for the purpose of deciding nominations. The sub committee will not include any potential nominee for the awards so as to avoid any bias.

 

It is accepted that other individuals or organisations may also nominate Club  members

 

3.      The potential nominee will be consulted by the TTMC committee seeking permission to make nomination.

 

4.      The nominee agree’s to provide TTMC information about their sporting achievements for the year

 

5.      Criteria for members nomination in individual categories, will generally involve  performance in national and/or international events.

 

6.      The TTMC committee will make nominations in any of the categories if appropriate, and shall have the discretion about the total number of nominations to be made per category. (usually a maximum of one per category unless special circumstances exist)

 

7.      Any TTMC member so nominated by the club, will have their Sports Awards Function ticket paid for by the club.

 

8.      The TTMC committee reserve the right to make nominations on a case by case basis if deemed appropriate in the interests of promoting Triathlon in this region.
