Ngamotu Beach Event!

Bad weather forced the cancellation of the Ratapiko event this season but we should have more luck at the first of our races at Ngamotu Beach, the

Powerco Triathlons and Duathlons

on January 15 beginning at 9am.

There are short and long events in both triathlon and duathlon and this is now the first race of the secondary series.

(The first of the series was meant to be the Lake Ratapiko event.)

The Frontrunner loyalty prizes

2 pairs of Saucony shoes to the value of $200 each (1 mens, 1 womens) are up for grabs this year. If you race in, or help out with at least three events you'll be in the draw on prizegiving night.

Many thanks to the Frontrunner. We really appreciate your support!

Open water swims

Want  to have a go at an open water swim for the first time, get a few handy hints or just swim with agroup. Good numbers are turning up to Graham Park's  swim sessions at Ngamotu Beach. They are at 5.15 on Wednesday nights and your gold coin donation goes to the Secondary School Triathlon Programme, which is outlined below.

Inglewood race winners

The winners in each catagory in the Inglewood race are listed below and a full list of results can now be found on the results page.

Taranaki Triathlon Club

Secondary School Triathlon Series

This season, in conjunction with our scheduled events the Taranaki Triathlon Club is running a secondary schools triathlon series. To be eligible to participate in this series students must be registered at a New Zealand High School (Years 9-13) in the 2012 academic year.

We welcome athletes from outside the province to participate in these events. The four races will only cost a membership fee with the Taranaki Triathlon Club of $35.00.

Every event competed in also gives you a one in four chance of winning a spot prize at that event.

The points system will be similar to the ITU World Cup points scoring system. Athletes will take points from their best three results over the series and the highest aggregate of points for both male and female will win their respective Taranaki Secondary School Triathlon Cup.

World Championship Success
Congratulations to Joy Baker, Clare Rinckes, Amin Osama, Ryan Dingle and Daryl Harding who all competed recently in the agegroup champs in Beijing.

Joy picked up a bronze medal in the Olympic distance triathlon and Clare was 10th in the sprint distance triathlon. Amin was 9th in his age group for the sprint distance and also picked up a 4th in the aquathon. Ryan was 12th in sprint distance and Daryl 33rd in the Olympic distance tri. What a great result for our Taranaki athletes.

Trucking on!

Those at our first event for the season would have seen our new  small truck.

With generous support of TSB Community Trust and with assistance from a few key club members, the committee has been able to fit out a small box truck to transport our growing list of club gear. We believe this truck will replace the aging tri-club trailer, and provide better mobility and easier access to our club equipment.

We are currently looking for assistance with some low cost (ideally donated) covered storage

so our truck remain in good shape for years to come. If you know of any possible avenues we could consider, please get in touch with Peter Crawford 021 674 390.
